Mold -

Damp and rotting wood is a prime target for wood boring pests. It should be stated that the potential for these conditions exist with any type of exterior siding product be it brick veneer, wood, or vinyl siding. Once moisture gets in, regardless of its origin, it usually has no escape.

Radon -

Radon is radioactive gas that has been found in homes all over the United States . It comes from the natural breakdown of uranium in the soil, rock and water and gets into the air you breathe. Radon typically moves up through the ground to the air above and into your home through cracks and other holes in your foundation. Your home can trap radon inside. Sometimes radon enters the home through well water.

Any home can have a radon problem. This means new and old homes, well sealed and drafty homes, and homes with or without basements. In fact, you and your family are most likely to get your greatest radiation exposure at home. That is where you spend most of your time.

Nearly 1 out of every 15 homes in the U.S. is estimated to have elevated radon levels, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Testing is the only way to know if you and your family are at risk from radon.
If high levels are recorded during a radon test, radon mitigation should be considered.

Wood-Destroying Pests -

If signs are noted, our licensed pest inspectors are able to determine if the presence is active. At times, these insects will visit for awhile, and then move on. Other times, they set up house and nest in different areas throughout the structure. In either event, they can wreak havoc on the wood components of a house, at times weakening structures and causing damage to areas that may not be visible to the average homeowner.

Energy Audit -

Quite often a home owner will have a specific comfort problem, such as drafts, cold floors, over heated top floor, etc. They will call whoever they think will fix that problem. The real problem is not always recognized by the person they call. If the home owner thinks the draft in the living room is being caused by a window they call a window company. The problem is that the window company will sell them windows even if that is not the proper solution. It isn't until after the $10,000.00 has been spent on windows, siding, or an inadequate insulation job that the customer finds out the room is still drafty.

Energy Analysis –

Are you tired of the high cost of heating and cooling your home? Maybe you have ice dams, mold, or you just feel cold and drafty all winter. Then it’s time to do something about it. Total Home Inspections will perform a Home Energy Analysis that will assess your home’s performance in health, safety, comfort, as well as energy usage. Total Home Inspections will provide an 11 page report with suggested measures to improve the efficiency of your home, reduce ice damming, mold, mildew and most of all save you up to 40% of your energy usage. Total Home Inspections offers a BPI certified contractor with a specially trained staff and diagnostic equipment capable of delivering a complete solution. Save $$$ in your Energy Bill. With today's increasing energy rates, closing that hole can save you hundreds of dollars in the heating and cooling seasons. Of 300 Home Energy Audits performed, the average person saved 25-50% off of that home's energy bill.
